About Marigold Law Group

Marigold Law Group is a general solicitors' practice founded by Richard Vining in Victoria, British Columbia. Since its start in 2023, the firm has focused on wills and estate planning and has expanded to include corporate law, real estate, and more recently, family law–with the addition of a new associate.

Richard implemented eState Planner at Marigold Law Group to streamline estate planning and reduce human error. Beyond document generation, eState Planner empowers Richard and his team to focus on the broader estate planning process.

As a result, Marigold Law Group reduced will-planning errors and improved efficiency. They took the time consumed by drafting and put it towards client interactions, boosting their satisfaction.

The challenge of accuracy in a complex and paper-heavy process

Before establishing Marigold Law Group, Richard had experience with estate planning – he had worked for a well-established firm in BC that used a more traditional approach. He knew that the traditional way of drafting wills and estate planning documents - involving mountains of paperwork and back-and-forth revisions - could lead to delays and mistakes.

Without the right tool in place, Richard had to deal with slow and manual processes for:
- Copying and pasting client information into long Word documents filled with predefined clauses, which can lead to drafting errors.
- Dealing with tedious revisions, where even small changes, such as correcting typos or adjusting clauses, can throw off the wording in the rest of the document.
‍- Communicating with clients by email and document comments in order to keep them up to date.

He saw the landscape of problems before him and he knew he needed a tech-based solution to navigate it. He needed something that would streamline client intake, reduce planning errors, and improve the quality of will and estate plan documents–all while relying on up-to-date precedents that are BC-compliant.

From the start, our goal was to go paper-minimal. Storing everything securely in the cloud means my team can work from anywhere, so we can stay accurate and compliant from anywhere.

How Marigold Law Group streamlined their estate planning process and made their practice safer

Reflecting on his early experiences with eState Planner, Richard says he found the software intuitive from the start. He first saw a demo during a legal tech symposium, and after adopting it at his own firm, he felt confident using it in no time.

Reducing will-planning errors and creating better plans

eState Planner's built-in checklists and real-time legal alerts, along with its up-to-date precedents, removed the risk of making mistakes. Reducing that looming risk of errors led to more peace of mind for Richard and his team.

Impact: Marigold Law Group experienced an increase in client trust, knowing their legal matters were being handled accurately.

Key eState Planner feature: With its latest release, eState Planner now offers additional BC precedents— which can be customized by each firm with their own clauses and provisions.

Saving time on drafting wills

With eState Planner, Richard cut down the time he spent drafting legal documents by a significant margin. For simple scenarios, he used the default asset distribution, which allowed him to create estate plans in just a few clicks.

When handling more complex cases, like specific gifts, eState Planner allows him to customize plans without sacrificing efficiency. Anything that gives Richard time back with his clients is a win by his books.

eState Planner was a game-changer for us. We no longer spend hours drafting documents from scratch, and we’re still confident that everything is legally sound.

Building stronger client relationship

With eState Planner now part of their workflow, Marigold Law Group is ready for even more growth. Richard has focused on improving client experience by setting aside dedicated time for face-to-face meetings.

By sitting down with clients to discuss their specific situations, he can address their concerns directly and tailor his advice to fit their needs.

A partnership for growth

Encouraged by these successes, Richard is also looking forward to diving into even more features with eState Planner. Right now, he’s eager to try the upcoming customizable questionnaires, which will further streamline the client intake process.

eStatePlanner isn’t just a tool for us; it’s a partner in building our client-centred approach. We’re excited about what it will continue to do for us.
